‘I Knew Him When He Was Heavy’: Trump Muses About Gov. LePage’s Weight at EO Signing

Despite the fact that President Donald Trump has only been in the White House for roughly three months, we’ve already grown quite accustomed to POTUS going off script during official events. And today was no exception.

During a signing ceremony for an executive order that will reduce federally protected land, Trump began name-calling a number of elected officials in attendance. And in one particular instance, Trump wanted to highlight a noticeable physical change.

“Governor LePage of Maine who, by the way, has lost a lot of weight,” the president noted. “I knew him when he was heavy and now I know him when he’s thin and I like him both ways.”

He added, “What a great job!”

LePage, an early and fervent supporter of Trump’s during the campaign, revealed in January that he had lost 50 pounds after undergoing bariatric surgery the previous fall. He stated at the time that he had the procedure done because his doctor told him he needed to lose weight or risk diabetes.
